LAL-LO, Cagayan- With her extensive involvement in producing research-based technologies that potentially benefit the community, Cagayan State University at Lal-lo’s research coordinator, Asso. Prof. Nenette T. Columna, has been awarded as the best Science and Technology partner in the province of Cagayan during the opening program of the 2022 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) organized by the Department of Science and Technology on November 16, 2022 at the Main Atrium Robinson’s Place, Tuguegarao City.
Associate Professor Columna is recognized for her “exemplary contribution and leadership in the establishment of research and extension on fragrant grass and essential oil industry program in Cagayan Valley and for her valuable support to the community empowerment through and Science and technology programs.”
In her response, Associate Professor Columna highlighted that the award is a hallmark that despite the struggles the country has faced in the past years, local communities through the help of DOST, and other community stakeholders, continue to thrive for scientific progress.
“This humbling experience does not only signify our aim for excellence, but more so of our commitment to improve the lives of people in our communities through establishing Science and Technology-based enterprises that sprung from well-crafted researches. Through this feat, we are able to prove that with efforts and persistence, we can collectively grow and achieve the scientific progress we always dream of,” she stated.
Professor Columna is the project leader of the Fragrant Grass and Essential Oil Industry Development Program in Cagayan Valley which highlights the Integrated Nutrient Management of Cymbopogon Species, Oil Production and Quality of Different Cymbopogon Species, and Cultural Management Technologies of the Fragrant Grasses.
The Cagayan State University Lal-lo already inked partnerships with technology adopters on the cultural management and production technologies of fragrant grasses in the region including neighboring schools and LGUs.#
