Cagayan State University (CSU) at Lal-lo formally launched its celebration of ASEAN Month on Monday morning, August 3, joining the university-wide observance across the nine campuses of Cagayan State University in commemorating the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and its enduring ideals of regional cooperation, peace, and sustainable development.
Despite the class suspension due to the inclement weather in the locality, the campus-wide opening ceremony gathered faculty members, and non-teaching personnel in the collective reaffirmation of CSU's commitment to internationalization, intercultural understanding, and academic excellence.
In his opening message, Dr. James B. Cabildo, ASEAN Engr., Campus Executive Officer of CSU Lal-lo, highlighted the significance of the simultaneous observance of ASEAN Month that reflects the harmonious balance between embracing global interconnectedness and preserving national identity.
"Today, we simultaneously launch two monumental observances: ASEAN Month, celebrating our regional unity across Southeast Asia, and Buwan ng Wika, honoring our national identity and native languages," he said.
Drawing inspiration from the founding of ASEAN through the 1967 Bangkok Declaration, Dr. Cabildo emphasized that meaningful progress is achieved through unity, collaboration, and shared purpose.
He noted that these same principles continue to guide CSU Lal-lo in building a culture of excellence rooted in integrity and inclusivity.
Anchoring his message on the campus' vision of becoming a "Professional Sanctuary," Dr. Cabildo encouraged the university community to cultivate an environment where diversity is celebrated and every member feels respected, safe, and empowered.
"Let us foster a campus environment where diversity is respected, where language unites rather than divides, and where every student, faculty, and staff member feels safe, valued, and empowered. Let us continue to Lead with Integrity and Innovate with Purpose in our classrooms, research fields, and administrative duties," he urged.
Meanwhile, in his ASEAN Month message issued to the entire CSU System, Dr. Arthur G. Ibañez, Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the University President, emphasized that ASEAN Month serves as an opportunity to reflect on the region's shared history and collective aspirations.
He noted that this year's ASEAN theme, "Navigating Our Future, Together," highlights the importance of strengthening regional cooperation while embracing diversity, innovation, and sustainable development.
Dr. Ibañez likewise reaffirmed the University's commitment to internationalization through academic partnerships, collaborative research, faculty and student exchanges, and global engagement initiatives that prepare graduates to become globally competent professionals and responsible citizens.
He concluded by encouraging the entire CSU community to embrace diversity, strengthen partnerships, and continue working together toward "a future that is peaceful, resilient, innovative, and prosperous."
The ASEAN Month celebration forms part of Cagayan State University's continuing efforts to promote internationalization, foster intercultural understanding, and align its academic and institutional initiatives with regional and global development goals.
Throughout the month of August, CSU campuses are expected to conduct various activities that celebrate ASEAN's cultural diversity, shared heritage, and spirit of cooperation while reinforcing the University's role in preparing globally competitive graduates equipped to contribute to regional integration and sustainable development.
