Lal-lo, Cagayan – Café-goers can now savor the unique taste of the two coffee blends made by Cagayan State University at Lal-lo as they are now being served at the Nueva Segovia Café that opens officially today, July 29, 2024.

The two coffee blends-the Valena Heritage Coffee and Oliviante Coffee Blend are products of continuous research and development initiatives of Cagayan State University at Lal-lo through the years.
The Oliviante Coffee Blend which was ceremonially handed in to the Local Government Unit of Lal-lo is one of the initial developed products of the study, Development of Valena Heritage Coffee Blend, led by Asso. Professor Mark Gregory Asejo of the College of Hospitality Management.

As a component study of the 5 million institutionally funded Coffee Research, Development and Extension Hub program under the leadership of Prof. Ana Marie C. Cauilan, the study targets to produce coffee blends with Valena Heritage Coffee as base coffee being the hallmark produce that has been introduced in the market as part of the efforts of the university to make CSU Lal-lo the coffee authority in Northern Philippines.

With an allocation of Php192,740, the study, according to Associate Professor Asejo, will endeavor to put in the market at least five blends of the heritage coffee which will be named after the prominent figures in the university and in the locality.

The newly opened coffee shop of the Municipality of Lal-lo is just among the target shops of the campus to market its coffee products. It is noted that CSU Lal-lo will also established its own coffee shop in front of the Campus Product Development and Training Center which is also a part of the 5 million research program.

These blends are produced from locally-sourced coffee beans from the plantation of the campus in the Valena Site where Robusta, Liberica, and Excelsa coffee beans are harvested.

Signifying a continued collaboration between the LGU Lal-lo and the university, the grand opening of the coffee shop was led by Municipal Mayor Hon. Florante C. Pascual and Vice Mayor Ma. Olivia B. Pascual, who expressed their enthusiasm for this new establishment and its potential to boost the local economy and tourism while working with Cagayan State University.

The Nueva Segovia Café is set to become a favorite hangout spot for locals and visitors alike, offering not just great coffee but also a relaxing ambiance with Lal-lo's products at the forefront.
