Students, faculty, staff, and visitors of Cagayan State University (CSU) Lal-lo now have improved access to the College of Teacher Education (CTEd) following the completion of the Php1-million road reconcreting project that replaced a decades-old and deteriorated pavement leading to the college.
Funded by the Office of the University President, the project addressed a long-standing accessibility concern along the CTEd area, where the worn road surface had become muddy, slippery, and difficult to traverse, particularly during the rainy season.
The completed concrete road now provides a smoother and more reliable route for students and personnel who regularly pass through the area, while also improving access to one of the campus' long-serving academic buildings.
The road traces its history to the early 1970s, when the present CTEd Building was still known as the Agriculture Building. Its original construction involved students who helped carry and lay rocks before the road was eventually cemented.
More than five decades later, the reconstruction marks a significant improvement to a road that has served generations of CSUans.
Work on the project began on June 26, with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) assisting in the milling or scraping of the old pavement in preparation for the concrete works. The construction work was spearheaded by the Campus Infrastructure Office with the guidance of Dr. James B. Cabildo, campus executive officer; Engr. Van Edzel Rendon, campus infrastructure coordinator; and Mr. Joel Tumamao, campus general services officer.
The road improvement was among the infrastructure concerns raised during a June 19 meeting with the OIC University President, together with the proposed renovation of the annex building.
With the project now completed, the upgraded road strengthens the campus' physical infrastructure while providing the CTEd community with safer and more convenient access to its learning spaces.
